The Internet Is For Pr0n. Pay Up

Since very few people on the visible side of the pornography industry are wearing any clothes, it seems like it would be a very casual business. But it's about as organized and avaricious as any business on the Internet, and it's getting angry. Many pornographers have banded together and formed the PAK Group, a sort of naked RIAA or MPAA, and they're preparing an onslaught of litigation on anybody they can find that's pirating their intellectual property and making a buck on it.

...styled after the ever-so-popular YouTube, there are now hundreds of these sites offering free streaming video complete with search engines, indexed content, tagging, and in some cases even a download option. Much of their content, however, is pirated.

“The use of stolen content had become so pervasive that I couldn't surf the adult Internet without running into stolen copies of our images,” said Tucker in an interview with industry periodical XBIZ. “Not only did this really put a damper on my late-night porn surfing, but it upset me to no end. Instead of enjoying adult entertainment, I started using those late-night hours to document thieves.”

The problem with tubes is synonymous with the copyright difficulties that YouTube occasionally finds itself in; except in the tubes’ case, there are no real challengers – until now. This, combined with the numerous porn-only BitTorrent trackers and the copious amounts of porn available on Usenet and other P2P networks, prompted [porn industry spokesman]Tucker and his group into action.

If there's ever been a funnier phrase in an interview than: "Not only did this really put a damper on my late-night porn surfing, but it upset me to no end," I haven't seen it. But I wouldn't go touting myself as big fans of the approach the RIAA has taken to chasing after copyright infringers if I was the PAK. That's the most hated name on the Internet, and your best customers might get turned off and tell you to "go have sex with yourself." Just not that politely.

Since you mentioned it here it is...for the unitiated. I can't beleive there is now an RIAA for smut! This is way out of hand; the tube sites may be copyright infringement, but how much could they popssibly be loosing? I'll agree that Kazaa and Limewire may lose money for the artists and industry, though not nearly what they would have you believe. Most of the people I know actually do use ITunes. As far as porn goes someone who would have actually bought a video will still buy that video; or subcription to Barely Legal,  the rest of us have been looking for years at the teasers and not paying to join, and it's no different. Perhaps I will change my opinion if they can demonstrate a loss in sales or subscriptions since the tube sites went up but my suspision is that there will be no loss of profit.

*** is a billion dollar industry trust me they will be taken serious! anyone with that kind of power (money) could get any top lawyer to represent them and the will win why? *** pay taxes! anyone who pay taxes have right to defend their profits

Its just like anything else on the internet -- there is really NO digital content that isn't pirated in some way; however when people are starting to make money by stealing things from other companies its a terrible idea...mostly because its no doubt that it is going to be short-lived and you will have to use this $$ that you earned stole for court fees anyway........

They, the PAK, have the chance to do this right and learn from the RIAA/MPAA mistakes. Will they?
They, like the RIAA/MPAA, may put a damper on P2P and the "tubes", But how will anyone ever stop the really talented people using Usenet?

And what does PAK stand for anyway? People against kissing? Pornagraphers against Knitting? P2P ain't kind? :)

Off topic but am I the only one still using Usenet?

Not that I'm defending pirates because I own all of my music, movies, and games but why freaking bother. People that pirate aren't going to pay for it. My little brother pirates games all the time. He lives with my mom and has no job. If suddenly he couldn't pirate them he would not start buying them. I know that's not porn but same content.

Usenet has always been the best for any type of file downloading/sharing. I use a service called Easynews.com. $10/month for 20Gb. (other packages available as well) The gigs roll over from month to month if you don't use them. The 2 best features they offer are a web based interface with thumnails for images and multipart files are combined for you. They are lightning fast. Also, if you use an nntp client such as FreeAgent, the gigs are discounted 25%. That means for a one gig file you only get 750Mb deducted from your total.
