Sony Seeks the Sweet Spot

The sweet spot is the point in the room, in between the speakers, in which the stereo effect is the richest. Many enthusiasts have gone to great efforts to find the perfect sweet spot, but most sound systems have very small sweet spots, which means that moving even a few centimeters away from it can drastically alter one’s experience. Sony wants to lend a hand and has been granted a patent for an innovative audio system that produces a sweet spot that follows the user around.

Every speaker will have a transmitter, which will allow the system to determine the relative positions of each speaker. The audio system will also feature a tracking apparatus and a re-calibration mechanism for readjusting the sound field so that the sweet spot would be at the user's position. No word yet on when the sound system will be available.
