Sony Reveals New Lines Of Secure Digital Cards

Sony has made a name for themselves by relying a lot on proprietary formats. ATRAC and MS Pro are just a couple that Sony has created over the years, and many consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with the move. But in more recent years, even Sony has bowed to pressure and relied more heavily on industry standards. The company's Cyber-shot, Handycam and NEX camera lines all support SD/SDHC, and now Sony will be producing their own line of Secure Digital cards for those cameras and more.

The new Essential Series and value-added Experience Series are joined by the flagship Expert Series of cards, all of which are differentiated by size and speed. All new SD cards by Sony are attractively presented with environmentally-friendly new eco packaging. There's also a handy memo space on each card for handwritten titles and other notes.

Too bad I already have a class 10 16GiB card in my Evo.

does the Evo use an SD card or microSD?

InfinityzeN1 3 years ago

It uses a microSD.  I have a Kingston 16GiB class 10 one, though Patriot and Wintec are making now for far cheaper.  Of course, when I got mine the Kingston model was the only one out and it actually wasn't that much more than other 16GiB microSD cards.

As an important aside, there were *HORDES* of knockoff class 10 microSD cards out there including ones being sold on Newegg.  Not sure if that situation has changed lately, but a true Kingston 16GiB class 10 should be putting out just over 20MiB/s reads and just over 14MiB/s writes when benchmarked.  If the numbers look like class 2 or 4, you got a knock off.
