Sony Debuts Lilac PSP, Loads Of New Software

We can't say we saw this coming. After hearing that Sony's only dedicated PlayStation Store in America would be closing up this year, the company has come forward with a barrage of new material for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles. From new software to new hardware, Sony's doing it all today.

At its annual retail and publisher conference Destination PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment America has proudly announced a new lineup for its PSP that is said to "extend the PSP market to young female gamers." How on Earth does it plan to accomplish that? With a lilac-colored Hannah Montana PSP Entertainment Pack! The bundle, which will ship in July, not only includes a new color of PSP, but it will also come with Disney Interactive's Hannah Montana PSP game, select episodes from the Hannah Montana TV series on UMD, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and stickers to customize the PSP. For the men wondering where their love it, Sony will also be debuting an Assassin's Creed PSP Entertainment Pack, which will include the exclusive Ubisoft game, a Piano Black PSP and "other content that will be announced later."

Sony has also announced that Rock Band Unplugged will launch exclusively on its PSP handheld, making it the first system to have access to a portable version of the hit game. And yes, there will be downloadable content available via Wi-Fi (in North America and Europe), so no sweat there. If that wasn't enough, PSP owners can also look forward to MotorStorm Arctic Edge and LittleBigPlanet coming this Fall, which are two blockbuster titles if we ever saw any.

Moving to the home front, the company has also announced continued PlayStation Network content from new movie releases through the video delivery service and new game spaces for PlayStation Home, and we're even told that the new Warhawk Command Center space will be debuting this week. Unfortunately, there aren't any limited edition PS3 bundles around the bend, but owners can look forward to upcoming exclusives like Killzone 2, inFamous, MLB '09: The Show, MAG, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves and God of War III throughout the year.
