Samsung Reveals First 3D-Ready Portable Blu-ray Player, Among Others

It's pretty much official at this point: 3D is here to stay, at least for a while. With Sony being one of the major backers of the technology we wondered how long (if ever) the others guys would wait before hopping on the bandwagon. Today, Samsung let out a slew of news surrounding 3D, and we can't imagine that the company would get this serious about the technology without an intent to hang around in the space for some time to come.

One of the more impressive reveals today was the world’s first portable Blu-ray player with 3D capability. The Samsung BD-C8000 delivers true 1080p HD video, enables 3D playback when connected to a 3D-capable TV and used with 3D glasses, and features a brilliant 10.1" screen. In other words, the 10.1" panel that is built-in won't display 3D content, but the player can display 3D content when used with an external screen. It also features internal Wi-Fi, HDMI 1.4a support and the ability to access content and applications from the Samsung App Store.

For those in need of a more permanent solution, Samsung also introduced three new home Blu-ray players. The BD-C7900 ships with two HDMI outputs for connecting multiple sources, integrated Wi-Fi, Samsung's AllShare sync technology and DLNA compatibility. Samsung’s BD-C6800 Blu-ray player includes built-in Wi-Fi, enabling it to wirelessly receive web-based content via Samsung Apps and playback media files from DLNA certified devices via AllShare, while the entry-level BD-C5900 offers 3D Blu-ray support without the frills.
