"It was a marketing move. We thought it was a pretty interesting strategy. The aim was to attract attention. The people in the queues told passers-by about the iPhone."France Telecom commented similarly:
"The aim was to draw people's attention to the product, and to make some buzz around it."T-Mobile also sells the iPhone in Poland, and it didn't try the same stunt. Thus, it had no lines outside its stores. Meanwhile, in India, lines were also non-existent, with the price of the iPhone ranging from $702 for the 8 GB model and $830 for the 16 GB model, as neither Vodafone nor Airtel will subsidize the phone in India --- and there's no 3G in India, to make matters worse.

There were not big lines here either.
No lines to be seen in Texas either
Not sure where you are, but there were lines at the mall in The Woodlands (north of Houston) every time they got a new shipment, for weeks.
This may sound weird, since I'm usually so into tech gadgets (for instance, I own all the video game consoles and almost never play them), but I've just can't understand what's attractive to people about this device. Remember when phones were for talking to people, not platforms for selling you ringtones and stuff?
Wow... I guess I'm old AND cranky. :)

Its the wow factor. I have to admit the games make me think about getting one again.
The iPhone specs do look nice for gaming, but it's hindered by not having a good gamepad. For now, I'll stick with the much less expensive PSP.
Too bad GamePark went bankrupt. :(
By the time you buy a few games you lose the savings on the psp.
I only use my PSP to play homebrew games/emus. :)
Wait...iPhone games don't cost money?
They do but its like $10 instead of $30
I didn't even know that the iphone had games...![]()
Since the launch of the new Iphone.

Check out the app store sometime. Makes me want a ipod touch.
