PC That Fits on your Bookshelf
Over the years we have seen our electronic devices become smaller and more powerful. Even many of us humans are starting to slim down and tone up as the fitness fad takes hold. Now it seems that the masterminds at Compulab had both thoughts in mind when they introduced the so-called “fit-PC,” which comes with Linux preinstalled. The Haifa, Israel-based company notes that the fanless fit-PC is approximately the size of a paperback book.
“Compulab says the fit-PC is based on the company's CM-iGLX computer-on-module (COM), touted as the world's smallest LX800-based single-board computer when it was introduced last fall. The module has a 500 MHz AMD Geode LX800 processor, and is equipped with 256 MB of DDR RAM and up to 512 MB of NAND flash.”

· SXGA graphics controller, resolution to 1920 x 1440

Compulab hails its silent, low-power rig as being practically maintenance free and perfect for applications that run automatically, 24/7. Because it’s so small and light, it can be mounted to a wall, under a desk, or even on the back of an LCD monitor, as suggested by Compulab. While it is small, it still creates heat. That’s why its black anodized aluminum case serves as both a chassis and a heat sink. While the fit-PC runs on Linux by default, Windows XP can easily be installed via USB. Those who are interested can purchase the unit online for $285 ($30 S&H for U.S. customers).
