Origin PC Now Offering OCZ Vertex 2 SSDs In Custom PCs

It's not easy out there for pre-fab PC makers. You're competing against giants like Dell, HP and Lenovo, and you're trying to sway consumers to purchase your brand even though you aren't running TV ads every half-hour. But when you look at a company like Alienware, you know it's still possible to hold an edge if you carve out your own niche. Origin PC is one of the newest pre-fab PC builders on the market, still looking to gain significant market share and attempting to offer unique components that the other guys simply brush off.

OCZ Technology is a mainstay in the flash storage business, and they've consistently offered leading edge products that have shattered benchmarks for years. Both OCZ and Origin PC are relatively small companies, which makes their recent partnership all the more special. In an effort to separate their PCs from the pack, Origin is now offering OCZ solid state drives from the get-go, with the Vertex 2 SATA II SSDs being qualified with their rigorous testing procedures.

We have a feeling that the inclusion of the Vertex 2 is just the beginning, and soon OCZ's entire line may be found as custom options. The real question is when will those "other companies" see the light and follow suit?

That's cool, I like OCZ and their products.

But I'm wondering why they didn't include the Crosair SSD in there?, SATA 6 is the future for SSD's and we're living in the past with SATA 3.

acarzt 4 years ago

The corsair drives are nice... with their 355 MB/s reads... but their 70-140(depending on drive) writes are horrid.

These Vertex 2 drives hit 285 MB/s reads and 275 MB/s writes.

I'd rather have the Vertex 2

And i'm sure OCZ has a Sata 6G product right around the corner.

Ohh man it's pretty awesome, it's so responsive. It's like night and day. It's like going from a single core processor to a quad core. It's like...Peanut butter and Jam.

I'm happy with it. Although im not getting the 285MB Reads and 275MB Writes....i'm looking into it (maybe chipset driver issue...not sure).

What kind of speeds are you seeing in benches?

Also what chipset are you using? I might be able to offer a few tips to get you a little more speed out of it.

Also... what offset did you use? I did a 128k offset.

Nice, either way we need more manufacturers making deals with the SDD companies, then we might get the prices down.

I just bought and installed a OZC Agility-2 SSD and it's made a tremendous difference in the speed of this system. It's booting up in record time and the few programs installed on the SSD load quicker than ever. I have a regular SATA drive as a data drive installed too.

I haven't run benchmarks, and probably won't either, but real world, it's a hell of a lot faster than before.

Nice neal. What are you getting for reads and writes?

Finally retested mine out with ATTO and im getting around ~280MB reads and ~245MB writes with 64KB block sizes.

One more thing, you should put your Agility in your Sig :D

I'm so happy with SSD's though, it's such a massive change.

realneil 4 years ago

248r and 245w so far.

Akarzt's comment about the 128K offset is intriguing and now I'm reading about it. If I have to reload it all to change it then I won't bother. This runs fine like it is.

acarzt 4 years ago

yea neil... you would have to wipe and reformat your drive to change the offset lol
