NEC Reveals Two Tablets, Home Gateway Solution For CES

Were tablets the "it" device of 2010? Some would say so. But is possible for tablets to also be the "it" device of 2011? That's also impossible to say for sure, but CES 2011 is shaping up to be a show where a load of new slates and tablets make their debut. Up until now, there have been numerous Android tablets to compete with the iPad, and a handful of Windows 7-based tablets. But few big-name brands have outed tablets outside of Samsung. 2011 looks to be the year which changes that.

NEC is one major company that is making no bones about their plans for the upcoming show. The company intends to exhibit not one, but two new tablets in Las Vegas. NEC will reveal the Dual-Screen Cloud Communicator and single-screen Cloud Communicator tablet. Both are interesting, but obviously the twin-screen device is somewhat more interesting. What makes it that way is its ability to operate two different programs independently on each screen. Each one is Android powered, with Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, a camera, SD card slot and a built-in stylus. No other details about either one is being provided, so you'll just have to wait until CES to find out more.

In other news, NEC will also use the show to exhibit a Home Gateway solution and an Android marketplace of their own. Could next month possibly get here any faster?
