MSI's Latest Laptop (CX720) Comes Dressed to Kill

We're big fans of MSI's Classic Series laptop styling, especially when that styling involves the tech equivalent of a pin striped suit, as is the case with the company's new CX720. This latest laptop from MSI sports a set of digs that makes it look like it's on its way to becoming a made man rather than destined for store shelves. Or maybe we watch too many mafia movies. Either way, the CX720 looks sharp.

A pretty face will only take you so far (right, Lindsay Lohan?), and in the competitive notebook arena, laptop makers can ill-afford to equip their portable PCs with sub-par components and hope to make a fast buck. The 17.3-inch CX720 comes to the mobile party carrying an Intel Arrandale Core I series processor, up to 8GB of DDR3-1066 memory, and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics. Depending on the model, you'll have either 320GB or 500GB of storage. Other features include a DVD burner, 1.3MP webcam, 801.b/g/n Wi-Fi, optional Bluetooh, four USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, HDMI, and a 6-cell battery.


So when will it ship and for how much? Good questions, both of them,  and hopefully MSI will have the answers soon.

The CX720's exterior structure is based on MSI's exclusive "wedge craftsmanship" that uses 45 degree angles to give the notebook a distinctive unified feel.

All-new 2010 Intel® Core™ Processor: The CX720 features all-new 2010 Intel® Core™ processor with HM55 chipset. Advanced technologies like Hyper-Threading Technology and an integrated graphics core result in reduced power consumption compared to previous generations and 15% longer operating time while on battery power. Also, a significant increase in graphics core effectiveness provides outstanding audio/video and processing performance.

nVidia GeForce 310M discrete graphics card (with DDR3 1GB VRAM): The CX720 comes with nVidia’s latest GeForce 310M discrete graphics card with 1GB DDR3 of display memory. Graphics core performance is better than that of previous generations, offering a superior visual experience with enhanced display performance consisting of crisper picture and sharper colors.

Embedded subwoofer: In addition to two speakers(2-watt), the CX720 comes with a subwoofer located on the bottom of the notebook to enhance your listening pleasure. Coupled with ideal theater-class 17.3” display, the CX720 maximizes your cinematic experience.

Cinema-class 16:9 ratio LED backlit display: The CX720 comes with a 17.3” LED backlit screen. It boasts an ideal cinema-class 16:9 ratio LED screen and high resolution, extending display visibility by 14%. That means wider viewing comfort with no distortion or color loss when viewing DVDs.

MSI’s distinctive chiclet keyboard: The CX720 comes equipped with the latest chiclet keyboard which offers that perfect touch to keep you from hitting the wrong keys. The lustrous cross-hatch color film print coating on the cover and wrist rest areas is unassuming and tasteful.

Classic seamless touch-pad: The CX720 is equipped with MSI’s distinctive seamless touch-pad. This touch-pad also utilizes the full-textured cross-hatch CFP patterning for the maximum in user enjoyment.

802.11 b/g/draft N Wireless: The CX720 comes with 802.11 b/g/draft N high speed wireless, with optional V2.1+EDR Bluetooth module. Additionally, a 1.3MP webcam lets you effortlessly stay in touch and instantly communicate with friends all over the world.

HDMI interface: The CX720 also features a built-in HDMI interface capable of transmitting up to 5GB of video bandwidth that provides vivid image quality.
