MSI Debuts R5870 And R5850 Graphics Cards

Not sure if you heard, but ATI had a little introduction this week. Or, maybe you'd consider it a big introduction. The new desktop-grade Radeon HD 5870 hit the scene in a big way, and you knew there was no way a GPU maker as prominent as MSI would be sitting this one out. Thus, the company has found time to issue the new R5870 and R5850 series graphics card just after its comical Batman-themed GPU hit the market.

As predicted, these new devices support DirectX 11 and an array of AMD-exclusive performance enhancing technologies. Built on 40nm process technology, the dense GPU supports the newest OpenGL/OpenCL standards, supports Eyefinity and is equipped with twin dual-link DVI ports and even a DisplayPort socket. Curiously, MSI decided against doling out hard specifications such as clock speed and price, but we're sure they'll be pushing 'em out as fast as the production line can move.

I'm particularly intrigued by this statement:

I don't remember reading about this in the reviews. Is this something exclusive to MSI?

I think it's a bit of a stretch to be honest and solid state caps and chokes are not unique to MSI. That said, they're definitely better but Military Class "concept"... I think what they're trying to say is that these types of components, versus say a standard capacitor, are the type that a manufacturer typically would have screened for a Military grade component selection. However, I'm almost certain they are not "military screened" components. That would be thousands of dollars of life, temp, shock and vid testing for a .10 capacitor, at the lot level, which would then make that capacitor cost about $10. Oh and now you know where some of your tax dollars go. Think about how many $10 capacitors are in a fighter jet or military class, battle-hardened network switch.

Who will bundle the best game?

Who will have the unbeatable price?

I'll look at these things when I buy one in a month or so,.....

Finally! The brand new Matrox Parhelia!

Of course, I'm kidding them on the "brand new" portion, but I am excited about the triple output. There's been so much concentration on dual-screen, but triple-screen seems much more logical for gamers.
