Logitech Introduces $99 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers Z506

There's no question that graphics get the bulk of the attention. Be it movies, video games, whatever -- people are really concerned about frame rates and how smooth an image is, but they often overlook the audio that fills in and completes the experience. Logitech has never been a company to overlook that aspect, and they have been providing killer audio rigs to PC and console gamers for years now.

The company's all-in-one kits have generally been impressive, but their price tags were often out of reach for most bargain gamers. But now, Logitech is introducing a set of speakers that even the cash-strapped gamer should be able to save up for. The $99 Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 offer 5.1 surround sound and compatibility with a bunch of devices: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPod or a DVD player, and that's just for starters.

To ensure that the Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 are easy to set up, the company color coded all of the cables and included an accessory cable for sound cards and music players. There are no difficult setup procedures here, it's just plug and play for the most part. The entire system offers 75 watts of amplification, and they should be hitting stores soon. Time to upgrade, right?

Had a Logitech set for about 5 years now, still sound great! It's a small stereo set with a subwoofer. Even had it in my car for a while after some thieves got my Kenwood. It actually sounded quite well, despite all the traffic noise. Will definitely buy Logitech again. Only complaint is the cable length for the individual speakers is too short.

If I had the room for a surround sound setup, i'd love to get one.

Unfortunately i'm very limited on space.

I do have an old 2.1 Altec Lansing set that still sound phenominal :-)

This is the thing I've been waiting for, sure there are $29 sound setups out there but I want one that's available and is as easy to use as Logitech.

I've always liked Logitech. I used to have a 5.1 surround sound set up back 7 years ago and it was awesome. I sold it to my friend last year, and it's still going strong (and still sounds just as good as when I bought it).

That is actually a really good price for a set like this!

They should have stuck the THX on there just for fun?

I have been kinda back and forth on this thinking, because having a HT, it is more fun to port the games over to that, to get the big screen and DD.

I'll just add to the Logitech love-fest. On my current rig, I have at least three pieces of significant hardware which came from them: mouse (MX Revolution, a great gaming mouse); G19 keyboard (had some hiccups to begin with, but is working fine now, might have been a Windows glitch); and the set of 2.1 speakers that may be the same model as lifeskills has.

And like him (or her, sorry, we haven't met) those old Logitech speakers have been pumping out respectable sound for ages now, even on Captain Clunker. Quality breeds loyalty, and therefore I may spend some of my birthday money on this new speaker set.

Got my dads friend a set of the Z-5500 with a good sound card and he was happy with the sound. I was unsure how well it would sound being that he was not a gamer but an Audiophile, needless to say he was impressed with the sound quality. I trust Logitech even though I am using Klipsch for my sound, Logitech is a quality brand.

Finally..it is about time that Logitech released a new set of PC Speakers that is compatible with my PS3. The price is also great. I am considering replacing my X-540 speakers for this one.

I just got a set of Logitech Z-2300. I needed something with an ample sized subwoofer.

Does anyone know the subwoofer size for this set?

acarzt 4 years ago

Not sure exactly... but it looks decent enough :-)

It should provide plenty of bass.

i have a 1000watt samsung surrpiond spund now thats an epic sound. I have a m8 who need this kinda set up tho and the price is great but what is the sound quality like?

acarzt 4 years ago

High Wattage != Quality Sound

Also... I read a nice article about the orientation of the center channel speaker.

The sound quality and accuracy was much higher(even on the same speaker) when the are Vertical instead of horizontal.

Here is the article if anyone is interested :-)

So I'm wondering. Going by Logitech's specs, If it is 75W RMS or 150W. Does that mean it'll sound bad?

acarzt 4 years ago

The sub is 27watts, the center is 16 watts and the rest of the speakers are 8watts each.

It's 75rms 150 Max.

It won't sound bad. It's by no means high end. But it's not going to sound bad.

Also the expression "!=" means "does not equal".

I have a 2.1 Altec lansing set. The Sub is 20 watts and the front speakres are 3 watts each.

And they sound surprisingly good. The sub can get pretty loud too.

Speaker build quality is more important than pure wattage. Even 2 speakers with the same wattage can sound completely different.

I,ve always like Logitech the make good speaker systems and an array of other items course I would,nt mind owning a set of klipsch surround for my computer but this set of logitech speakers are in my range and having experiance with logitech speakers before I will waiting for them to get on the store shelf and get me a set! It will certainly be better than the 2 channel generic speakers I own now!

Nice little setup and it's nice to know that once we finally get a house I don't have to sell some organs to have a nice surround system.  I can't wait to ditch my 2.1 setup although for a generic brand they sound pretty damned good.  The sub can rattle things on the desk so it's good for now.

Inspector 4 years ago

Selling your organs fora  surround sound system is over the top... Way over... :D. But ya this can save you some money if you don't want to spend all that money on professional sound systems. :)

acarzt 4 years ago

Who is selling organs?

You've got 2 of a few things lol you get can rid of some lol

I'd sell a kidney if the price is right.... got a few things I could buy lol

ClemSnide 4 years ago

Maybe Optix meant "selling your organs" to mean selling all those Wurlitzer organs he had hanging around. They do take up a lot of space.

acarzt 4 years ago

LOL! They only take up a WHOLE BUILDING!!

acarzt 4 years ago

Unlikely, what makes your kidney so special anyway?

acarzt 4 years ago

A rich buyer will likely have a large social network and would be able to find what he needs at a lower price lol

Unless you have a rare blood type and the person who needs your kidney is a match... odds are you're not gonna get much for that kidney.

animatortom 4 years ago

Im O-...Is that worth anything?

All I know is I tell the women, hey wanna see my O-Face....Oh..Oh...Oh!

acarzt 4 years ago

Inspector 4 years ago

I'll sell a kidney for a new computer... (Then again is it really worth it?..." runs to black market and sells kidney" "Enjoys new build with those G.Skill 48GB rams...!") lol
