Lenovo Ships 16 Inch IdeaPad Y650 Notebook

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Lenovo's IdeaPad Y530, which we found to be solid, though not without its annoyances. For those looking for something just a pinch different (and by "different," we mean "bigger and more powerful"), there's the IdeaPad Y650, which has long been announced but just recently available for ordering.

At Lenovo's website, the 16-inch behemoth is available in three standard configurations, though each of them can be somewhat customized to your liking. The lower-end IdeaPad Y650 - 418536U starts at $1299 and includes a 2.40GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor, Windows Vista Home Premium, Intel's integrated X4500 graphics, 3GB of PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM, a 1366 x 768 resolution display, 320GB hard drive and DVD writer. You'll also find the usual suspects (a six cell battery, WiFi, Bluetooth and a one year warranty), but those looking for a bit more power can select the 2.53GHz P8700 CPU, opt for 4GB of RAM and choose the NVIDIA GeForce G 105M 256MB graphics unit.

The Y650 should ship within 11 days (the current wait time as of this writing), though we get the impression that you could see it sooner than that. Hardcore gamers need not apply, but those looking for a relatively thin 16 inch notebook to handle the daily grind may have a winner on their hands.
