LG Comes Clean With First Android Phone: GW620

At this point, it's more difficult to name a phone manufacturer that doesn't have at least one Android option in the lineup, but Apple and LG are definitely two. Er, at least one of them still is. Today, LG has finally caved to market pressures and revealed its very first Android-based cell phone in the GW620.

Featuring a 3" full touchscreen display, the phone is also equipped with a QWERTY keypad and a slew of applications developed by Google. Naturally, it will also come ready to surf Google's App Market, but little else is known about the slider so far.  Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, did have this to say about the introduction:

"The LG GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience. Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead."

The GW620 will be available in the fourth quarter of this year in select European markets, but there's no mention of when it'll come to US shores. C'mon LG, we could use the competition!
