IBM and AMD Opteron Servers
Some good news for AMD for a change. The success Sun and HP have been having in the server market with AMD's Opteron family of processors has caught the attention of IBM. IBM is now considering increasing their server product lineup with more servers built around the Opteron processor. The Opteron's large advantage over Intel's Xeon, is that it uses less power and produces less heat, while at the same time performing faster in most server tasks. This leaves Dell as the only top-tier server maker not selling any Opteron based servers, which could cost Dell market share.
