On a serious note though guys I have been a member of this forum for 3 years next month and I have to say I have received way more advice than I have given. Maybe that will change 3 years from now cause if I could imagine how much I would know by than judgeing by what I have learned here in 3 years than I could def contribute alot more. I kinda feel indepted to this place and all the people here since I literally knew nothing about computers when I joined. In fact I have learned so much here that it has no longer become a hobby. I have been cabling a large data center for months now and talking alot with the Tech's on site and have been talked into a new career path. They want me to go for my MS certified systems engineer cert and get into the IT field. They say with my knowledge of computers and my networking background that I will have a huge advantage over a majority of the tech's in the feild now. So this summer I will start studying for it and most of that is due to the large amount of knowledge I have gained here at HH. The giveaways and contest are just a wonderfull bonus imo to an already superb community. I could never say thank you enough.

well hh has been having contests for years now, i remember the x1950 contest and the 7900 contest
many review sites have contest i just stick to hh cause of the laid back feel to this place. sometimes i get confused trying to find what i want at firing squad, and many other sites are too bloated for my tastes.

Sorry Davo, It looks like I won't have a chance in this contest, and I won't be able to participate in posting this month and probably May as well. It's time for me to look into Colleges and Universities and it is a tough thing. I just found out that one of the schools that I want to go to costs $50000 per year plus housing and food. :(. It would be the best school out there though. I hope you guys good luck, I must save up some money for school, since it will be hear very soon. (In a year). I also must study a lot so I won't have time to talk much. So yeah, good luck guys in the contest.

lol, i was refering to undergrad compared to grad. when going to grad school ive seen people go from undergrand community college to harvard, in fact alot of people dont go to good undergrad schools to save money for their grad school.

Not sure if you are serious. But the answer to the question about AMD cards and processors is no. Only "beneficial" for fanboys.
Your rig is fine. It isn't like you lose 30fps in games because the hardware doesn't like each other.

Kind of wished they used the Cosmos S instead. But I'm not complaining. Still has amazing cooling capabilities.

Yeah, but for fanboys like me it's nice to have a high performance AMD system. That way I can rub it in the face of the Intel fanboys who get mad at me when I wear my free AMD cap that came with my CPU. I love to stategically pull that baby out.

I would love to win this rig but I,m not likely to qualify.Im not sure where to post in re: to the forum in general. Should I be posting more in the News section as far as feedback and or hardware areas as to personal experiances to with new hardware or overclocking and such. yeah ive been reading and rereading this thread and i see loads of people who ahve 4-5 posts say something along the lines of "it would be awesome if i win this.." and leave.
one thing i did notice though, is the board dies down between contests... or is that just me? could be my excitment level is way too high.

Yep, school is more important for me than a computer right now. The job that I want to get when I grow up is a job that you have to be the best in to get it. I want to do visual effects and animation for the movies, and you don't have much time if you are busy creating something and doing work for school.

i hate going to toys r us (or any store) for taht reason i can never choose anything. but yeah i checked out smotth creations and their case jobs are out of this worth, i really liked the simpsons one.

I don't really have a rig. The one I'm useing now is my grandmas and it's one of thoes cheap bottom row Wal-Mart specials.
I lost my rig after my dad did some "stuff" and the FBI came knocking one early morning. They took my computer and I've called them over and over again but they don't seem interested in giveing it back. I talked to the DA and he said he could not do anything about it because it was federal. I talked to an attorney but he said it would cost me more to fight them to get it back than what it's worth *sigh*
Oh well my computer was getting old anyways it was:
CPU: AMD Athlon 2100+
Memory: 2GB PC3200
Video Card: XFX Nvida 7600 GT XXX Edition
Sound: Soundblaster X-Fi XtreamMusic
I now have a Core 2 Duo e4700 that is the first part of my new rig and will upgrade that to a 45nm quad core later on. I guess I'll get 4GB of DDR2 800, what ever the best $200 card (+or- $15) is at the time I go to get one, a Soundblaster X-Fi maybe the X-Fi 2 if its out by then, a 350-450GB harddrive, and a 19" widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1444x900 maybe a Samsung.
Of course if I win this rig I would just sell off the e4700, but thats about as likely as getting struck by lightning in a cave.

I recommend you an ASUS Xonar D2 or D2X instead of the X-fi.It is much better!

I don't know it's the only part I have now, I still need to buy the rest of the parts before I can try it out. Right now I have to use my grandmas computer until I get all the parts for mine. I'm lucky I don't have to write TCP/IP code in machine language on paper and mail it to the server to get on the internet with this thing :P

It's kinda funny, the posts you see that are just "I want this rig", or "my rig sucks so bad I need this one" and not much else content wise from them. I am not trying to bash anyone here, as I am still new myself, but thats just kinda funny. I have a pretty decent rig already, mostly due to gifts from a benevolent hardware reviewer who shall remain nameless. I joined this forum because he pointed me towards it a few years ago, but I had pcgamer forums so I didn't need a second one. That forum fell apart (pc gamer). I always enjoyed the hh reviews; and the forums seemed to be a friendly, knowledgeable bunch of chaps whom I figured I would flap my gums at and see if anyone listened. Would I have liked to win this new rig of course, who wouldn't? I joined this forum not because of the contests but with the contests being gravy, I joined to have a place to fart around on a forum. If I win a contest so be it, but I don't have a dire need for new pc smell right now. My point is I joined this forum to have a forum not to win a new rig.
At my other forum I was a member who checked every day to see what was going on. I was a member over 2 years, and I racked up a whopping 500 posts in that time I guess not every post needs a response. Anyhoo I'm just glad to see the rig went to a longtime member that deserved it
