Harmonix Disables User Passwords in Wake of Hacker Attack

You may have noticed that RockBand.com, DanceCentral.com, and Creators.RockBand.com are all down. That's because Harmonix pulled the plug on each of the three websites in order to investigate what it believes is a hacker attack. As a precaution, Harmonix passwords have been disabled, and users who have accounts on any of the affected sites will have to reset their password when everything is back up and running again.

"The security of your Harmonix user information is very important to us. We’ve taken the sites down while we investigate this incident and determine how our systems and the information we maintain may have been compromised," Harmonix stated in an email. "At this time, we have not found that any of our users’ information has been published or misused. None of our sites maintain any credit card information, social security numbers, or financial account numbers for any of our users."

Dance Central

It's been a couple of days since the initial attacks were discovered and the sites are still down as of this writing. On its RockBand.com website, Harmonix notes that the outage is completely unrelated to the end of weekly Rock Band DLC.

Good to know someone monitors their stuff. Harmonix isn't a huge company but its good to know they are trying to prevent any user data theft before it can happen. I came into this thread thinking they had a bunch of stuff stolen already but appears they haven't.

Yeah, kudos to them. It's a shame people feel the need to do what amounts to breaking and entering. Feel bad though for good who are you affected by this and have done nothing to warrant the frustration they might feel.

Well im sure it was for billing info. They may not have as many customers as a huge company but id look at it as people know who they are but they are smaller and they might not have the security that the big companies have and might be an easy target. Other than that I would think it would be just to mess with them or maybe they wanted the latest song for one of their games?
