might be dumb questions, but what information is needed and is this a steam download?

realneil 4 years ago
but what information is needed
They want you to reply to marco's e-mail with your "fat78" Name first,.....with your real name and address included in the reply.

It's probably the full game in a box,...and it will most likely be mailed or shipped to you.

congratulations!

Thank you realneil, that explains why the information is needed. Assumed it was steam download.

Inspector 4 years ago

YES! thank you HH, LOVE YOU! :D

I would like to give a speech but i don't have one planed. i was just play SC2 and lost... This brought my mood right back up :).

Here goes my try... :D

Thank you for this great contest HH, I would like to Thank all the members of this community especially the admins Dave and Marco that made this possible. I would also like to extend a shout out to MSI for providing the goods to such a GREAT give away. I have enjoyed my stay here on HH since i first joined and heard of their awesome Sweepstakes. It was not till the mid of that contest did i find out this was a great community to stick around with. I got to admit i was only in it to win when i first joined, but then things change and im here on a daily bases. That's when i soon found out that HH gives so much for their members, a sweeps stake every month! Where else can you find such great people? now with the conclusion of this sweepstakes and me as the winner! i would like to wish everyone else that won a copy of Metro 2033 a big CONGRATULATIONS! Thank You Dave, Marco and the HH community!

How was that? i winged it :) lol

Question for Marco or Dave: Do i have to PM you the info right now or a in a certain time limit? i would like to talk with my parents about this if i can spend the cash to build the rig first, cause if i can't i will have to give up the prize :(. (Still siked i won! Big Smile)

And thanks Marco for the copy of Metro 2033, I was walking the college campus last night and checked my email from my phone and was surprised that I had won a free copy. Great timing too! I had just finished setting up my new PC and can't wait to try the game out.

:D after jumping around and hyping up about my win... i cooled down a bit to think about my new build.

What do you guys think about this one? suggestions plz!

CPU: i7-950 (299.99)

RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB)(124.99)

CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler (49.99)

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF X (199.99) ... Ya not so sure if i want to get one this expansive.

Total: $714.95

realneil 4 years ago
COOLER MASTER HAF X (199.99) ... Ya not so sure if i want to get one this expansive.
CoolerMaster is a good brand. That's all I use. But you may want to look at their Storm Sniper Case Instead.

I have one and it's absolutely awesome. Trust me on this, you'll like it, and it's only $139.00 right now.

manoy385 4 years ago

Don't get a V8, Inspector. Get the V6 GT if you want to stick with Cooler Master. As for the case, if you want something smaller and cheaper go with a CM 690 II Advanced (Basic if you don't need a hotswap drive bay) or a HAF 922. If you want a full tower, the HAF 932 though a bit old now is still a good alternative to the HAF X.

crowTrobot 4 years ago

Inspector:

No local stores you can use cash in? Save money on shipping too! Just ask your dad or a friend to drive you there. Also, you can always store the hardware for now and apply for a credit card in the meantime :) Good thing about hardware is that it won't go bad if its unused :p

Doesnt Fry's Electronics down there in the states still sell i7 930 for $200? That is a great deal. You can easily overcock it to i7 950 level with any aftermarket cooler and save $100.

HaF X is huge and expensive btw, the HAF 932 is cheaper if you want a fulltower but there are really awesome 60-70 dollar cases that are perfectly fine since the big bang is standard ATX anyway. HAF 912  (mid tower) is like 60 bucks and its great.

Inspector 4 years ago

I can't think of any good local tech stores around me, so i think online is best thing so far.

O right, :) thanks for the suggestions so far!

So im thinking AF 922 or the storm sniper right now.

Mano, about the v6, what do you mean if i want to stick with cooler master? the v8 is from them as well. Is the v6 better then the v8???

@ Optix: Ya, true. i can always build it slowly :).

Edit: Well, lol the request went well :). My dad will take my old computer :), which means i get a complete new build :).

Suggestions for a power supply? media drive, HDD ECT... for a complete new build. :)

animatortom 4 years ago

Yeah...You need to go to Fry's on FridayGeeked

Or if you have a good GPU already you can sell them for the CPU and posibly a cooler and case.

Or just let your dad have a new build and you get his hand me downIndifferent

Inspector if you go with the storm sniper you should get it here:

http://cmstore.coolermaster-usa.com/product_info.php?cPath=36_48_50&products_id=502

you can get a CM V8 on that site for $35
NICE man, Thanks! That's quite a lot of savings :D

Edit: They are Refurbished (i think im'a go with brand new instead)

animatortom 4 years ago

Yeah inspector, I was just offering ideas:P

You were the one who said if they wouldn't fund the new build you would have to give it awayCool

I got an old case you could have, but shipping from Hawaii is more expensive than buying a new oneHmm

Either way you can now start trading now if necessary, at least you have an extra GPU. That would be worth enough for an I7, or you could spend two weeks at SubwayStick out tongue

If your needy, you cant be greedyHmm

manoy385 4 years ago
Mano, about the v6, what do you mean if i want to stick with cooler master? the v8 is from them as well. Is the V6GT better then the v8???
I meant that if you want to stick with a Cooler Master heatsink you should go with the V6 GT. You can also take a look at the Corsair H50/H70 or the Noctua NH-D14. And yes the V6 GT is better than the V8. It even beats the Megahalems which is miles ahead of the V8. I think even Cooler Master's Hyper 212+ beats the V8 which can be had for around $20.

Also, be sure to put 1 slot spacing between your GTX 460s and add a side fan to intake cool air to the video cards. Otherwise, the top card may get too hot especially if you're stress testing your overclock with Furmark.

realneil 4 years ago
add a side fan to intake cool air to the video cards
The CoolerMaster Storm Sniper Case has three 200MM cooling fans in it. One is in front for intake, One is on the top for exhaust, and the third is on the side panel drawing air in.

On mine, I have a Asetek LCLC CPU water cooler mounted on the rear of the case drawing air out of the case. (Asetek makes the H50 and H70 coolers for Corsair)

I added an extra fan to the other side of the radiator, so now it's in a push/pull configuration. This case will cool his configuration with ease.

________________________

As to the Power Supply, I will not buy anything except SeaSonic brand. They provide good, clean, reliable power and have a 5 Year Warranty too. They only cost slightly more than other brands, and the extra money spent is worth the investment. Get one that is SLI rated and at least 80+Bronze certified. Remember that when a power supply goes belly-up, it can have catastrophic results, taking out many of the components in your PC at the same time.

I have no doubt the Storm Sniper will cool his system with ease. The reason I recommended the HAF 922 and the CM690 II is because they provide similar or better airflow than the Storm Sniper at a lower cost. The HAF 922 has basically the same fan configuration as the Storm Sniper but is $50 cheaper. The CM 690 II Basic is half the price of the Storm Sniper and has the capacity to hold 10 fans. The money you save can be better spent towards a better cpu heatsink or a bunch of fans.

Ouch, I think the NZXT Lexa Blackline would fit you better...

Optix 4 years ago

I'm a big fan of getting the most for the least.  Antec Three Hundred gets my vote.  Cheap, great airflow, it looks great and has been redesigned slightly so what is shown on Antec's site it not correct.

I wonder when they'll finally update that?

Ya i love the design and looks of that case. only thing is i don't like the white too much because it doesn't match anything... and the black looks... too dark, if it had some blue on the sides it would look EPIC!

I would also choose that i7 950 as it's a great processor, and the recent price cuts make it irresistible. Someone here mentioned different RAM with tighter timings, and I would always opt for tighter timings. Those two video cards are going to be dumping a lot of heat into your new case, so make sure it flows a lot of air! Do you already have a power supply for your new build, Inspector?

Have fun with the MSI gear Inspector!

I have an MSI Eclipse mainboard and an MSI Radeon 4870 and they're quite good so I imagine that the BigBang-XPower and two GTX 460's will be awesome Big Smile

I hope you can persuade your parents to help you complete the build.

inspector 4 years ago

LOL ya, i just really need to persuade them to let me use their credit card xD. I got the money but i need their card to buy it -.-

tanka12345 4 years ago

I think your selections are solid so far.

I have a HAF 932 and I imagine the HAF-X is far better.

I think you'd probably need a good monitor to go with that Smile

EDIT: The V8 is also a decent cooler for the price but there are better ones out there like the Megahalems

Good CPU choice, but I would go with this ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226030

It's a little more expensive but it has very tight timings.

For the heat sink I would go with the Corsair h50 or h70

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010

fat78 4 years ago

i picked my h50 up down at best buy for a little under 60 bucks.

slugbug 4 years ago

The Corsair H70 is an improvement over the H50. If you'd rather stick with air Cooler Master's V6GT is a good choice and more efficient than their V8.

For the Metro 2033 game, are we getting Steam codes or a retail/oem game disc?

realneil 4 years ago
For the Metro 2033 game, are we getting Steam codes or a retail/oem game disc?
They asked for us to reply to a PM from Marco with our mailing info, so I guess it's a full boxed game.

The H70 has twice the radiator size? It should cool quite well then.

EDIT: I looked up the H70 and it has two fans for a push/pull effect and the radiator is almost twice as thick as the H50 and my Asetek LCLC. But my LCLC (same as the H50) cools my i7-870 CPU completely and even under benchmark/stress testing loads for long periods of time. I could see the need for the H70 if you were going to radically OC your system, but otherwise it's overkill.

Hey everyone and mega grats Inspector. I apologize for being so scarce I have been hard on the road upgrading computers, registers, scanners (hand and flat bed) for Walmart/Sam's. For now I have been all over Utah, California (mainly the middle of the state), Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Texas and am right now back in Arkansas where it all started at. They have decided to have us change to larger trucks as well as teams rather than soloing it in Sprint trucks (imagine a euro cargo truck). The whole thing in many ways has not made a lot of sense to me (in a project sense) as the planning has been severely wanting at least from what I have seen.

Either way enough of my rambling, congrats again Inspector, and I don't know if you have made your hardware choices yet. If not I would suggest looking at the new NZXT cases as I have heard very good things about the as well as know they always keep there case prices great

(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146067) the layout in these is awesome. Personally I like the ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065) as a cooler or of course the Prolimatech Megahalem. I have both, and the 512 with some good fans is just short performance wise of the megahalem, but half the price. Make sure you grab a solid power supply (I don't mean 1200 to 1500 watts) that is made well, the corsair psu units are solid. For memory just grab as high a speed yet compatible with an I7 chip ram as you can up to 1800-2000 max or just short of that. Anything above 2000 is kind of pointless 1800 is a bit high in all reality. Make sure it has something like 6-8,6-8,6-8, 18-20 stepping and a good supporting company and I doubt you will be sorry for it. That would pretty much do it all I could see for an initial build is some cpu paste, and maybe a couple of fans and a HD, and CD drive.

I hope that they come with an "Off Switch" to use. That would get old with me fast, and only come on to impress company. Ha!

Inspector 4 years ago

:), ya it does have off switches. i also got one lazer light thing that i will have on when the cathodes are off :)

It sounds like you're having fun with it and that's a good thing. It should be screaming fast when it's done.

Inspector 4 years ago

it sure is fun :D, waiting for more parts everyday! :D lol

i just got the Logitech g700 and 510, ram and a power supply  to day. going to pick up the case, cpu and cooler tomorrow after school :)

Alright, so i got on working on my new build today!!! after fiddling around with everything i didn't finish yet and just put the old build back(one HDD... lol) for tonight and get on HH :) lol.

Question: How many watt psu would i need to keep the comp running smooth? so it has the big bang, 2x 460, storm sniper case and its fans, 3x 1TB HDD and a few cathodes. Also was considering tossing the old GPU in there as a PhysX, 9600 GSO 768mb, is it a good idea? i placed it in the case and the only problem i was thinking about was the heat as the 9600 has to be sandwiched between the 460's(only way i could fit it on the mobo, well not only way but other way would be 9600 on top and 2x 460s under it.) Thanks!

Probably not. Restrict the airflow too much, plus heat, and you will not need it for Phys-X anyway. Also,........the third card in there throttles one of your X-16 speed PCI-E slots down to X-8 speeds. not good.

It's just not the Watts, it's the quality and efficiency you have to look at. SeaSonic 600 or 650 will power all of it with some to spare. Get the 80+Bronze or 80+Silver certified PSU.

Inspector 4 years ago

my old comp has a 600 ocz modxstream, will that be enough? i was thinking take that one and get my dad a cheaper on as my old build doesn't require it anyways.

realneil 4 years ago

You can certainly try it. I'm not sure about the PSU that you're talking about because I have no experience with that brand's power supplies.

I have their RAM, (good shtuff) and their SSD too. (good shtuff)

Does it have the proper connectors for the TWO GPU's on it? How old is it?

If it's more than a couple of years old, then don't use it.

Inspector 4 years ago

its about half a year only :). Ya im using converters for the gpu connection.

Inspector 4 years ago

LOL, NVM i don't seem to have enough plugs, I would have to use up all the cables for the gpu and have non for fans, and cathodes :( lol. Plus i doubt it can handle all my parts and other stuffs. Any good PSU recommendations?

realneil 4 years ago
Any good GPU recommendations?
I think you meant PSU recommendations,.........SeaSonic  Is all that I use. They're the best I know of.

THIS ONE has all of your connectors too, for a good price.

Inspector 4 years ago

LOL my bad was thinking about the gpu before lol

I'll check it out.

Corsair is good too.  Thermaltake used to be good, haven't heard much about their psu's recently.  Antec is good.  The list goes on but those are the major ones in the reasonable price range.

It's good to see that cool hardware going to good use. Two of those in SLI are gonna be awesome with that board and the CPU that you decided on.

Oh,...And I Guess It's Now,...SPAM Posters Beware!! (heh-heh!)
