Department of Homeland Security Recruiting Geeks for ‘Cyber Reserve’

Do you laugh at the skills of other geeks? Do you have tech knowledge that would make the typical hacker whimper? If so, you might be a candidate for a new government program aimed at battling cyber enemies of the state. The so-called Cyber Reserve is being likened to the military reserve: a force of tech experts who can mobilize to defend the nation in times of crisis. We would have gone with Cyber Avengers, but Cyber Reserve works. It’s about honor, not glory, right?

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate is handling the creation of the Cyber Reserve and is starting by recruiting tech experts who already have a history with the government. But that pool won’t last forever, and the DHS is considering training programs for new blood. The biggest challenge that the new program is going to face is convincing top techies to take government salaries.

Enemies of the State are necessary in a free society. Under no circumstances can I imagine myself working with the American Schutzstaffel aka Department of Homeland Security. DHS has been used to suppress more American rights than it has to stop terrorists, at a ratio of approximately infinity to none (the DHS has NEVER prevented a terrorist from boarding an aircraft, for example).

This is really a good move by the department they do need to have trained people who actually know what is Spear-Phishing and other such threats and who have the knowledge to secure the system.
