Deal Of The Day: WD Caviar Blue 1TB For $60 At NewEgg

This particular news post is short, sweet, and to the point. NewEgg has a 24 hour deal going on a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB drive. Normally, this hard drive is $75, but if you order it using the promotion code EMCYWNR48, you'll save $15. That's just six cents per GB and it's the best storage deal we've seen in awhile.

The Caviar Blue series is Western Digital's mainstream product line—it spins at 7200 RPM, but offers just 32MB of cache as compared to the 32-64MB of cache on today's Caviar Blacks. As an added bonus, the drive is being offered with free shipping.

I think I'm going to grab a couple just to keep on hand. Great drives for the money. Short-Stroke 'em and they're pretty fast too.

Is HotHardware affiliated with TheTechReport? If not, you might want to fix the newegg link that has a TechReport affiliate code. Maybe even register HotHardware as an affiliate if you're not already to get a little kickback.

Yeah I seen these today when I got email from Newegg but I forgot to post it!!!! Great Deal

animatortom 4 years ago

That is what I was talking bout in my other post. :)

This is a great deal for WD. Yet, to get even something small shipped to HI, it is already 23bucks. So I get stuck with still having to go to BB and pay the same price as shipping:(

Cant wait to get back to CA, and see what Fry's has to say bout the TB drives:)

Well, since you asked, here is part of today's Fry's ad as shown in the LA Times:

AHHHH#$%@!*&#!

Thanks for the frustrationIndifferent

Since Circut City and CompUSA has closed two years ago, there are no good electronics stores here. As over priced as they were, at least they had good variety of computer tech.

Now all we have is BB and they only stock what they tell us to buy.

I really miss those "Geek a week" trips to Fry's! Geeked I even miss the Mars Attack theme of the Burbank store, or the Tropical theme of the Manhattan storeSad

A good deal for those of us on the mainland. They've been shelling out the deals right and left lately at newegg and lots of them leave my mouth watering too. Ha!

I may see a little cash come my way in about 6 weeks, and if I do, I'll be juicing up the 'Puters a little. (hope it works out)

What a great deal! I can't wait to show this to my son as he is looking for a storage drive.

Prices for tb drives are dropping very fast. Alot more people who dont already have a TB drive are going to start buying some when they upgrade. Going to send this link to a friend since i know he has been looking for a upgrade.

Now NewEgg is offering the Caviar Black 1TB drive with free shipping for $79.99 (thru Sept. 1). You must use promo code EMCYWNT33 to get this price.

I wonder if these things are going to continue to drop in price as SSD's become more mainstream.Confused

inspector, how much did you pay? lol

Joel H 4 years ago

Super Dave: Yes. But what's the big deal? There are still high-end / high-performance HDDs if you want one. The WD600 is just 47 cents / GB, compared to $2.20-$2.40 for a solid SSD.

Spinning-platter technology is fine with me, but the super-low prices makes it even better! You need to get yourself an avatar, Joel.

An interesting observation. It does come with a 3 year warranty, and my perception of Samsung hard drives is positive based upon my readings. Do you consider Samsung to be an inferior drive, Tom?

Would you care to elaborate on that, Tom?

Disposable electronics!

Every product I have tried were cheaply made, and did not last to long. I am sure they have gotten better, but with my dealings with them before, there is no reason for me to go back to them. It would also be a matter of principle. I see no reason to support an economy that does not return the favor. It is the same as taking all the money in your house and giving it to your neighbor, only to have him come back and buy your house and kick you out!

Even now, their electronics are nice and shinny so it seems like you are buying high quality. They have been doing good for around two years now and I would venture to say that the warranties on those products are about due! So I am sure they will fail within their warranty period like they were designed to. So if you feel comfortable having to replace your major components every few years, then more power to ya!
I guess for those who feel that Che and Mao are cool, cheap electronics feels like a good placation for actual economic freedom. If you know Che, then buying samsung is kinda like how he made people feel like they were getting free health care. Just before they were all subjugated to oppressive rule:P

This is nothing short of an economic war of attrition. Only this time you will have a shinny flat screen that will probably break right before you are kicked out of your house.
Remember the Ukrainian famine and the 7-10Million who starved while the food banks were overflowing.

I for one have had good luck with the Samsing F1 series drives. Much better than my ordeals with WD.
