DROID PRO Combines Android 2.2 With Touch Screen, Dedicated Keypad

The "DROID Does" campaign continues. And this Droid may be the most interesting of them all. Motorola has just revealed their newest smartphone, the Droid Pro, and it looks to be a hybrid of Droid and BlackBerry. For the past two years, almost every major smartphone has either had a dedicated keyboard (BlackBerry), a full touch screen (iPhone) or a full touch screen with a slide-out QWERTY (Droid 2). This is a wild and unique combination of those, with the Droid Pro having a large touch screen and a non-slide QWERTY keypad.

The phone was launched at CTIA in San Francisco, with Verizon Wireless being the exclusive carrier in America. It's the first Android-based phone with a form factor like this, and it's also a global-ready handset that can get service in over 200 countries. It supports a lot of enterprise and business applications, like push corporate e-mail, corporate level security, Quickoffice Mobile Suite and the keyboard we mentioned. As for specifications, it has a 1GHz processor, 4GB of memory (2GB internal; 2GB removable), Flash support, multi-touch support, a 3.1" display, Android 2.2 (Froyo), 3G Mobile HotSpot functionality, a 5MPcamera, Wi-Fi, and a 3G diversity antennae.

Pricing will be announced at some point in the future, but Verizon should have these on sale "in the coming weeks."
