Corsair Announces 3-Way Certified 1KW PSU

Corsair Announces World's First 1000 Watt Power Supply Certified for 3-way NVIDIA SLI Technology at CeBIT 2008

Corsair HX1000W is Latest Addition to HX Series of Modular Power Supplies for Gamers and Enthusiasts

Fremont, CA, February 28th, 2008 – Corsair, a worldwide leader in high performance computer and flash memory products, today announced the HX1000W power supply unit (PSU), the world’s first 1000 watt PSU to be certified under the newly-created 3-way NVIDIA SLI Technology Certification Program from NVIDIA Corporation. The Corsair HX1000W will be debuted at the CeBIT 2008 show next week in Hanover, Germany on Corsair’s stand (Booth 40, Hall 21).

The HX1000W is the latest addition to Corsair’s award-winning HX-series of modular power supplies for the gaming and enthusiast community. Featuring a twin-transformer, true dual-rail design, DC-to-DC conversion and high-quality solid state capacitors, the HX1000W delivers the rock-solid performance and stability required for high-end enthusiast gaming systems.

Features of the HX1000W include:

  • Designed for multi-core CPUs and multi-GPU systems
  • Guaranteed to deliver its full 1000W output at 50ºC operating temperature
  • Industrial grade solid-state capacitors rated at 105ºC for uncompromised performance
  • True independent dual +12V rail design
  • 140mm temperature-controlled fan for quiet, efficient cooling

With Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) and 80% or more energy efficiency across a wide range of loading conditions, the HX1000W PSU generates minimal heat during operation. In addition, the high quality, thermally-controlled double ball-bearing 140mm fan provides effective cooling and whisper quiet operation.

“Having the first 1000 watt power supply that is certified for 3-way NVIDIA SLI Technology is a great honor,” said Jack Peterson, VP Corporate Marketing. “The fact that the HX1000W meets the 3-way NVIDIA SLI Technology specification at a wattage rating that is up to 30% lower than some of our competitors highlights Corsair’s superior engineering expertise and world-class product development efforts,” continued Peterson. “Clearly, this is the ultimate power supply for enthusiasts and demanding customers who want the very best hardware in their gaming rigs.”

Dang... and I just bought a new PSU.

This unit looks like a winner and the modular cables are great... once you use mod cables it's hard to go back to regular fixed cables!

Certifications just seem like marketing gimics to me now. Nvidia's and Microsoft's "certified" hardware still doesn't work well in Vista (nvlddmkm.dll) so why should why should I continue to trust and pay a premium for these stupid labels?

Corsair has been making some nice high quality psu's. It's nice to see them throw in a modular 1kw version =P. I think I'd still take a Enermax Galaxy though over this...But I'd have to wait for some Jonnyguru reviews to get a full take on the quality of the unit ^_^.

 HI All,

Looks to be a very impressive unit, however I prefer single rail units.

I wan to see how well this power supply handles hard-core computers. Also the noise level would be interesting, since most of the huge power supplies always make you system very noisy. I wonder if this one does.

 seems nice

Its huge!!!!

Corsair has always had top notch PSUs and this one is no exception even though 1000W is overkill for most is not all users.

Their first psu's weren't all the great honestly =P. But they have been releasing really great quality PSU's for a while now ^_^. This HX would definitely be on my list for a modular 1kw PSU. hopefully it'll be priced better than most 1kw psu's..With the 620Hx around 150-180...If this came around the 250 mark..it'd definitely be a great buy....But we'll have to wait for some extremely thorough reviews as I stated before...Jonnyguru will definitely review it sooner or later =P.

I would just like someone to give me a honest, serious answer: WHAT WOULD POSSIBLY NEED THAT MUCH POWER?!

...humor me :)

Good, I have heard a ton of good things about Corsair PSU's, and from what I have seen they seem to have earned all the good opinions.

Personally I would rather have an 850 watt that can handle anything I can throw at it for at least 2 or 3 years, than a weaker one that I have to risk spending $100 for another one.

Wow,this is really a monster Power Supply.I wonder if it would fit in all the cases! Not many people will make the step and upgrade to 3SLI I guess...

I just noticed that. It was enough of a bear to get my PSU (slightly longer than regular ones, but not by much) into my case. I feel bad for folks that buy this and hope to fit it in a mid-tower case!
