Boxee Box Firmware Jumps To V1.1, Adds New Features

Ah, Boxee Box. The little media streaming box that could. The D-Link box, which has officially been on sale for a few months now, has been improved on a fairly regular basis. A ton of new features have been added in recent months, and this month's no different. Version 1.1 of the Boxee Box firmware has just shipped, revamping a lot of stuff under the hood. Things like?

Things like support for 16 new languages, bookmark + history in the browser, a revised Movie trailer library, new seek bar for playback of the on-screen display, a new share menu that allows users to choose where messages go, and faster browser / web page loading. There's even support for NFO files, too. Some users of the new firmware, however, have noticed a few quirky audio issues, but the company is reportedly looking into the matter. If you've given it a go, let us know if you've had any weird audio glitches; if not, you may want to hold off until things are ironed out or clarified.

When is this firmware available? I just checked mine and it isn't available.

I've been so preoccupied with XBMC that I had forgotten about Boxee.

If anyone wants to make it work on Ubuntu 11.04, you need to follow the instructions here: http://maxolasersquad.blogspot.com/2011/05/install-boxee-on-ubunty-1104-natty.html, because they haven't updated their packages yet.  :\

Also, after that you'll probably need to install some extra non-default libs (there may be more, but these are the ones I didn't have):

sudo apt-get install libxmlrpc-c3-0 libtre5 xsel

before you do the actual install:

sudo dpkg -i boxee-works.deb
