Bethesda Unveils Oblivion Sequel: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Bethesda Softworks has officially unveiled Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the next installment in their very successful Elder Scrolls series. Bethesda unveiled the game exactly 11 months prior to its release date, which is 11/11/11 or Nov. 11, 2011.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which was rumored previously. Thus far in the Elder Scrolls RPG series, no game has been a direct sequel to another, so this is a definite change.

The voiceover of the trailer (embedded) says:
You should have acted.
They're already here.
The Elder Scrolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely delay
'Til the time after Oblivion opened,
When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood.
But no-one wanted to believe.
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns It dawns in fire.
But ...
There's one they fear.
In their tongue, he's Dovahkiin: Dragon Born
(fade to grand song about Dovahkiin)
References to dragons, and dragon-born bring to mind many fantasy series, and not just role-playing games, but those in books such as The Belgariad and The Malloreon, as well.

Nov. 11, 2011 is a long time from now, and not only is it so long that pre-orders aren't yet available, it's also long enough for a delay, or for Bethesda to get it right. Watch the teaser trailer below. You'll be forced to enter your birthdate due to the ESRB rating.
