Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Ice Cream Sandwich Update

When we first received the new NVIDIA Tegra 3-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime for testing, we had solid communication from both Asus and NVIDIA that this tablet was one of Google's test vehicles for their upcoming Android 4.0 operating system, also referred to as Ice Cream Sandwich. Besides the fact that the folks at Google have a bit of a sweet tooth, at least when it comes to development project code names, this new iteration of Google's OS reportedly was targeted primarily at performance enhancements, with a few feature-adds and UI tweaks thrown into the mix...

scheduled release per asus for the og transformer tf101 not the prime tf201 is per asus set to be pushed this month, they were not able to be more specific than that. as for the prime the ics upgrade a few weeks ago went as smooth as possible taking all of five minutes and not a single software issue since. there was another software push yesterday to all prime owners heard it had to do with the camera and some other things but that came straight from the rumor mill so take it with a grain of salt.

Hmm... not a bad idea.

From what I’ve seen and heard it won’t be released for 3 to 4 months. the main differences are the lack of a metal back to help with GPS and Wifi issues and a higher rez screen. Atleast thats all I have heard. Maybe slight increase in Ghz on the CPU’s

OG I was referring to is the OriGinal but Olive Garden is a good choice as well. Stick out tongue

contrary to popular belief, rumors, the two wifi antennas are located between the gorilla glass and the motherboard the metal back has nothing to do with reception. one trick that works, i wouldn't use it on mine but if you squeeze the sides somewhat you can increase signal strength. the antennas have spring mounted contacts that for lack of a better term aren't springy enough to make really good contact. the gps option was dealt with by virtually removing from newer products not that for most it was important to begin with, just a testing and marketing deal gone bad. the tf700 model is supposed to have a higher res screen but when it is a 10" screen as opposed to a say a 55" you would barely notice a difference if any. the screen res on the current tf201 units is so awesome to begin with i cannot imagine how they could improve it. the squeeze the tablet means to boost wifi reception worked on the first batch from the end of last year. the new units per owner feedback including my own experience works just fine.

Android 4.0 "ice cream sandwich" seems to be alot more straightforward than the Android 2.3 "gingerbread". all the reviews iv'e seen all convice me that this is what my dad should upgrade to, as he spends alot of time browsing, and working online.

not all devices will work with ics, and those that do, research first before attempting as you don't want to end up with a crippled or doa device. i don't have to worry about it but if you really want to upgrade my best advice is to keep up on any one of the android user forums where they can give you a first hand heads up in advance.
