Apple's Mac App Store Opens in Three Weeks

Apple practically wrote the book on the app store business model, and come January 6, 2011, the Mac App Store will be open for business, the Cupertino company announced today. The new app portal will launch in 90 countries on Day 1 and include both paid and free apps.

"The App Store revolutionized mobile apps," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can't wait to get started on January 6."

Categories will include Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity, and Utilities. Developers will have the freedom to set their own price, of which they'll receive 70 percent of sales revenue to be paid on a monthly basis.

Like on iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad™, you can purchase, download and install apps in just one click and start using them immediately. Purchased apps can run on all of your personal Macs and updates are delivered directly through the Mac App Store so it’s easy to keep all of your apps up to date. The Mac App Store is available to Mac OS X Snow Leopard® users as a free download through Software Update.

Apple has done it again. Just after celebrating the new year, they'll be introducing their new app store. Apple's revolutionary Mac App Store will open for business on January 6, the company announced Thurs. The Macintosh App Store functions on the Apple App Store model. Computer software for Macs can be bought, downloaded and installed as easily and very easily as iPhone apps. agreed. the mac app store will fail the same way the app store for iphone did. apps won't be able to do what they do but more what apple lets them do. This just will make mac worse because the great thing about pc is there are apps for everything and no app store that one person currates or monitors what goes in and out. Now programs like that will get hidden. Macs have always been for simple users who don't want to do much and now they are gaining market share slightly they are getting some power users and this will hurt them because good apps that access outside of their program or something will be too hidden and the programmers dettered to pc
