Apple Quietly Begins Shipping New iPods

Lost in the hubbub of the iPhone 5 launch and all the recent iPad Mini rumors is the fact that Apple also updated its iPod touch line. Like the iPhone 5, the new iPod Touch devices sport a larger Retina display that's now 4 inches, better hardware, Siri support, and for the first time an assortment of color options. They're also finally shipping to customers.

On Apple's website, new iPod touch orders are listed as being available to ship in October. We're a little less than two weeks into the month, and those who placed their pre-orders in September are starting to report that they're receiving shipping confirmation emails from Apple in the U.S., with expected delivery dates as early as October 15.

If you want to grab one today, it's worth visiting your local Apple Retail Store location, if you live by one. Some stores have started selling both the iPod touch and iPod nano.

The new iPod touch comes in 32GB and 64GB flavors for $299 and $399, respectively; the 16GB iPod nano sells for $149.
