Acer Debuts C7 Chromebooks for $199

More Chromebooks are coming, or at least they’re coming from Acer and Samsung. Samsung announced its latest Chromebook just a couple of weeks ago, and today Acer announced its C7 Chromebook line.

Due to the nature of Chromebooks, specs between different manufacturers are only so compelling, so the most exciting feature of the Acer C7 series is the low $199 price point. That’s fifty bucks cheaper than the new Samsung offering, and it’s far less expansive than last year’s $299 Acer AC700 Chromebook (which is notable especially because it appears as though the new Chromebook line is in essentially the same chassis as the old one.)

The premiere lappie in the new C7 line is the C710-2847, an 11.6-inch unit which features a 1.10GHz Intel Celeron 847 processor with 2MB L3 cache, 2GB of DDR3 memory, and a 320GB hard drive and 100GB of free Google Drive storage. It’s WiFi-only, but ports include three USB 2.0, HDMI, and an SD and MMC card reader, and it sports a 1.3MP webcam and integrated microphone.

As Chromebooks go, this one is particularly compelling because of its price point. The sub-$200 mark seems to be a somewhat magical one in the tech world, and now users can choose between a number of excellent 7-inch tablets or one of these laptops for the same price.

Looks like someone stole the idea from those guys who were building cheap computers for Africa and Americanized it.
