Acer Announces GN245HQ 3D Monitor with Built-In 3D Vision IR Emitter

The 3D products just keep rolling in. One of the latest is the GN245HQ 3D monitor from Acer. Sporting a 23.6-inch LED backlit panel with Full HD (1920x1080) and a 120Hz refresh rate, Acer's marketing this one as the world's first 3D monitor to support the HDMI 3D solution from Nvidia.

Don't worry if you're not equipped for HDMI connectivity, it also blasts three-dimensional images through a dual-link DVI connector. In addition, the GN245HQ boasts a built-in 3D Vision IR emitter so you don't have to use up a USB port, and Acer includes a pair of active shutter glasses to get you going.

Other features include a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic, no doubt), a rated 2ms response time, and up to 68 percent less power consumption courtesy of a two-lamp design (as opposed to four lamps).

Look for this one to ship in mid-March in the UK for £419.99 (~USD$677). No word yet on when Acer will bring this one stateside or for how much.

Looks great, but what about Pixel Pitch? I am currently on the market for new system and a monitor but 677.00$ is a bit high.

Pixel pitch is a bit of a moot point these days. Back in the early days of LCDs it was something to look at when pixel pitch could greatly vary. But with these higher res LCDs, the pixels are packed densly enough that pixel pitch is no longer a spec people pay attention to.

It's pretty standard for a monitor of this size to have a pixel pitch right around .27mm

For gaming would 27" be better than 24"?? There are a few sumsung models that seem to have good rating. But if I was going for top of the line willing to pay up to 450.00 what would be the best gaming monitor for that price?? any good review sites?

for example  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=24-001-431&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=4&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1 has very mixed rating. .3 pixel pitch 1 sec response time

Many people say that screens with a 120MHz. refresh rate are the best gaming screens out there. I just bought a 27" ASUS-VE276 and got a good price for it from NewEgg.com. It's not the 120MHz. refresh rate screen, but it is just fine for me. It has a 2MS response time.

Breaking News: Dell U2410 for $449 + Free Shipping

I think its safe to say you heard of this model....If Not here are some reviews..

Cnet......Trusted Reviews.....MaximumPC

The monitor that Realneil mentioned is also nice, and so is the Samsung P2770FH, thou the size might overwhelm you and you'll have to tweak it a bit..........Newegg "Verified Reviews" are super positive.  I still think you will be very happy with the PX2370.

I still do not understand or want one of these 3D displays whether it be a desktop or HD TV implementation of it. I truly think these are junk devices because we have seen holographic displays as the future of display for decades. However; none of these manufacturers have one, so this is basically a switch and screen cover by the manufacturers. Holographic displays exist, but they are to expensive to produce especially for the mass market, and I am also positive they come to nowhere near an acceptable resolution, or applicable speed. I guess they are beyond HD by a decade, at least for now. We need display's like they had in Demolition Man I think it was where it is a mental/visual real time interface, I think we got a decade to wait for that!

Wouldn't simply getting 3 3D cable monitors and the 3D nvida kit be alot cheaper then getting 3 of these monitors that will in turn give u 2 use less emitters and glasses (unless u want to share the beauty :)

an energy efficient 3-d lcd monitor....Sounds good.

700$... sounds like 100$ away from a motorola xoom.

a motorola zoom... sounds like a 50inch HD tv/ sound system/ killer gaming pc/ a cheap car

But cool none the less.

At least its a tv as well!

I love Acer's design on their monitor stands, their so sharp and angled, makes the monitor seem deadly.

I'm having trouble seeing the purpose of designing a new 3-D monitor, when I believe the best 3-D monitor on the market is currently mad by acer too (One with an orange base, slightly lower specs and costing around $400 on newegg)

If I were Acer, I'd make my next big jump to either a 30' monitor, or a 24' glasses free model, allthough I know the later is infantile technology, glasses free 3-D is when I plan on jumping onto the 3-D bandwagon.
