It's a good idea, but all PC's still eventually become outdated. The best gaming PC from 2002 can't run Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, or even 2005's Battlefield 2. But I guess consumers will know that can at least run today's games... although I wonder how well Crysis will run on some of these. Is lowest settings 640x480 considered worth playing?
Basically this just another system configured for gaming? If so what is supposedto be the new innovation.

playing games under your monitors native res is teh suck!1!1! lol. Sorry to say this, but i honestly think PC gaming is out the door. It pains me to say that and i almost shed a tear, but its the truth. everyone loves consoles and all game developers are moving to them.
I never have been in to consoles I preffer gaming on my PC.I think the market will always be there for both.I never would consider kicking my PC to the curb!!!
Well maybe this clunker Im on right now! See my specs you,ll understand!!![]()
Problem with PC Games is that they are soo demanding. I'd say every 2 years you need to update some part of your pPC to keep up with newer technology. On the other hand Console require little upgradeable, but though lately it seems they are rushing the system to get it out such as the 360, I think 2 years later the Elite came out which pissed me off. I'm stuck with 20 Gb HD while some new kid gets a 120 gb.
No Squid this system sucks LOL
I would have to disagree. I thought that was true till I sat in gamestop 1 day anxiously waiting to purchase a PS2 game for my son as the couple in front of me went through the process of purchasing an xbox360 for their child. I had no clue the amount of accesories that were available for this thing and all the different things you need to do this or that like purchasing the online cards or whatever they are for xbox live. I was absolutley shocked listening to it all not to mention annoyed cause it took so long for this sales guy to explain why they needed this or that they would need that. Consoles are basicly turning into pc's the only adavnatage and why they sell so much is they are pretty much plug and play and don't require an engineering degree to purchase becasue you know when you buy the system that they won't make a game that says xbox 360 on it that won't play in the xbox360.
I kind of like this idea that AMD is pushing. The only draw back I see is stores jacking the price of a pc up just becasue it has that label on it when before the label system was in effect it was say $200 cheaper. They can say now to there customer oh this 1 here is $200 more becasue it's an AMD GAME system. Also let's say this does go into effect and I have a particular system selling now that is classified as an AMD GAME system. 2 years later it's the same system so can I still sell it as a AMD GAME system. There is to much open to interpretation. I thinkthey're needs to be a rating system for those who don't understand all the different hardware listed for minumum requirements.
For instance they're should be different class's of systems like the 100 class, 200 class etc. So say you buy a 300 class pc and go to the game store you know now that any game at the 300 class or below will play on your system and it would be right on the front of the box saying 300 or 200 or whatever just like an xbox 360 game would have xbox 360 on it. The advantage to pc's is they could play older games regardless unlike some consoles. As technology progress's the class's would too but the guidelines that categorize a game or pc in that class would never change.
Well that was just my .02 ![]()
Nelson, that's actually a good idea! Maybe a board, similar to the current ESRB board, could take a look at games before their release and assign them a class rating. And the would also designate, and continually update, what hardware is required for each class.
Uh, you go ahead and email the gaming world. I'm sure they'd like to hear of it. :-)
Yeah right I'll just waltz right into their board meeting and be like "YO" this is how it's got to be from now on.
Sure, it'll work![]()
HAHA. They'd give you that WTF look and then call security. Bill Gates would secretly watch from the shadows. : )

The death of PC gaming is regularly predicted since the NES, due to piracy, dropping sales, bigger better consoles. In many was some developers love PC's. No royalties and cheaper distribution. Most developers start on the PC because the barriers to entry are huge on consoles. Hence why there is such a strong indie/mod game community on the PC whereas consoles virtually have none and are somewhat restricted to the big developers. What really ensures the PC gaming will last is the size of the user base.
Smaller studios can survive better on the PC, their games sell longer as the PC doesn't work in generations like the consoles. Counter Strike: Source is still one of the top selling games on steam. The PC is organic in nature, it can adapt and change a console can't. Look what happened to the Dreamcast imagine if you spent years developing for a console and it went bust, probably you would follow.
The truth is the PC platform offers a stepping stone to console game development. Look at most of the big studios, where did they start. PC.
Whats the best selling console game at the moment. GTA IV, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 what platform did they all start on. PC (Bungie said the initial Halo was for PC before Microsoft gave them funding and sent them to the XBOX). Yes, it's true many developers are moving to console development but thats because they are big enough to compete in that market. There always has been and always will be a huge migration of developers to consoles and not the other way around. The true genius of the PC is not to attract talent but to create it.
