Entry Level Nokia Lumia 520 Drops To $29 Off Contract

The Microsoft-branded Lumia 535 is the most recent budget smartphone entry from Redmond, Washington (it seems as though all we’ve been getting lately from Microsoft are budget- and mid-range models), but it’s an older member of the Windows Phone family that’s getting a fresh price cut today.

The Lumia 520 was available for a respectable $39.99 this summer from Amazon, but the Microsoft Store is now selling the phone off-contract for a mere $29. You can use the smartphone with you existing AT&T service or with a prepaid SIM via GoPhone.

The Lumia 520 was announced in April 2013, and won’t win and beauty pageants or specs wars. It comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot for expansion, an 800x480 display, a 5MP rear camera (without flash) and a 1430 mAh battery.

As its specs indicate, the Lumia 520 isn’t exactly a speed demon and things can often bog down a bit under Windows Phone 8.1. In addition, the pictures taken with the Lumia 520’s rear camera are nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done.

But with a price of less than $30, it’s hard to complain about the specs or performance of the Lumia 520. If anything, it’ll make a decent backup phone should the need arise.
