Facebook Unveils Tools To Give You Control Of What’s Shown In Your News Feed
It's a funny thing, using Facebook. At it's best, the world's biggest social playground is a wonderful online tool to keep us connected with family, friends, sports figures, our favorite brands, and so forth. But have you ever found yourself feeling irritated with the posts that appear on your news feed? We've all been there, and if it happens frequently, you'll like that Facebook is making it easier to control what you see.
It begins by making it quicker and easier to unfollow people, Pages, and Groups. This can be especially helpful during election periods -- we all have that tinfoil wearing uncle or friend who rages against your political affiliation with snarky memes and links from dubious sources. And then there's your marijuana loving buddy who splashes your page with drug references and inappropriate photos. Though worst of all is the Peyton Manning fan who just can't accept that Tom Brady is better. Hey, we're not judging our friends and family, we just get tired of some their annoying posts. So, what can you do?
"News Feed settings will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that you’ve seen in your News Feed over the past week. You can choose to sort by people, Pages or Groups posts, or see an overall summary. Unfollow any friend, Page or Group if you don’t want to see their stories in your News Feed. You can also see who you’ve unfollowed in the past and can choose to re-follow them at anytime," Facebook explains.
Easy cheesy, though there's more. You're probably aware that you can tap the arrow in the top right corner of a story to hide it. That still exists, though starting today, you'll have the option to ask to see less from that person or Page when you choose to hide a story. If you choose to see less, Facebook will give you the option to unfollow them. Don't worry if you accidentally banish someone's posts from your feed -- you can always go to News Feed settings to see everything/everyone you've unfollowed, with the option to re-follow.
