ASUS ROG Rampage V Extreme Motherboard Motors Into Town On X99, Is Ready To Drive Haswell-E
Now that Intel's Haswell-E family has finally and officially been introduced (be sure to read our Intel Core i7 5960X CPU review, if you haven't already), brace yourself for a barrage of related product announcement from eager hardware partners who have been waiting for this day just as eagerly as the rest of us. That includes ASUS, which today introduced its new Republic of Gamers (ROG) Rampage V Extreme motherboard.
This gnarly slab of awesome-sauce is built around Intel's X99 chipset and geared towards the gaming and overclocking crowds. To accommodate the new crop of Haswell-E processors, the board sports the latest LGA 2011-v3 socket configuration and boasts eight DIMM slots with support for up to 64GB of DDR4 3300MHz (OC) memory.
The Rampage V Extreme is overflowing with overclocking features, including the patent pending OC Socket, OC Panel, Safe Boot, and ReTry buttons, as well as things like ASUS's Extreme Engine Digi+ IV voltage regulator module (VRM), DirectCU direct-contact cooling, numerous intelligent onboard sensors, and more. To prove these aren't just bullet points on a box, the ROG team went out and broke 28 records using this board -- pretty impressive.
As to the spec sheet, this board rocks four PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots, a single PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot, a single PCI-E 2.0 x1 slot, two SATA Express ports, eight SATA 6Gbps ports, a single M.2 Socket 3 with M Key, Intel I218-V Gigabit LAN, 14 USB 3.0 ports, 6 USB 2.0 ports, ROG SupremeFX 2014 8-channel HD audio with shielding technology, and various other tidbits scattered throughout the EATX motherboard.
