Samsung Brings NanoTech UltraFlix 4K Streaming Content To UHD TVs

If you happen to own a 4K television from Samsung that was released this year, you're in for a bit of a treat. Today, the Korean-based company announced a partnership with NanoTech Entertainment, which ultimately brings the "UltraFlix 4K" channel to current Samsung's TVs.

Not much imagination is needed to understand what this means: You'll be able to load the channel up, via an app, and have quick access to more than 500 hours' worth of 4K content. This content includes concerts, movies, TV shows, and some special events. Most of what's on the service will need to be purchased (or rented, we'd assume), while 100 hours' worth will be provided for free.

Being that 4K is the resolution of 1080p - 3840x2160 - you can expect that bandwidth requirements will be fairly hefty. However, as long as you have a decent connection, you should be fine. NanoTech's press release states that all of the content has been encoded with the latest HEVC compression standard (H.265), which is said to be 50% more efficient than H.264.
