The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Championship last season and are legitimate contenders to do it again in 2015, but if you need another reason to move to Texas, consider the good fortune falling upon San Antonio's neighbor to the northeast. Lucky folks in Austin, Texas, are being treated to Google's ultra high speed broadband service with the 1Gbps upload/download tier running just $70 per month.

How's your 30Mbps or even 100Mbps service looking now? Here where this editor lives (southwest Michigan), that's just a little more than what Charter charges for 60Mbps, which only covers downloads -- upload speeds are capped at 4Mbps.

Google Fiber Tiers

Google's $70 plan is its middle-tier option. It includes 1Gbps Internet service plus 1TB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos.

Sitting below is a Basic Internet option that offers Austin residents 5Mbps downloads and 1Mbps uploads for no monthly fee, albeit there is a one-time construction fee of $300, which residents can pay at once or break up into $25 payments for 12 months. Taxes and fees also apply, so it's not quite free.

For $130 per month and no construction fee (with a one-year commitment), Google offers its 1Gbps Internet service plus TV -- 150 channels with the capability to record up to 8 shows at once.

Google Fiber is slowly making its way to more and more locations throughout the United States. It's currently available in Kansas City and Provo, Utah, with several other cities on the company's radar, such as Phoenix, Arizona, Portland, Oregon, and San Jose, California, to name just a few. All tallied, Google is currently in discussions with 34 cities in nine metro areas about the possibility of rolling out is Fiber service.
