Microsoft Offers Free Office Suite For Mobile Devices Everywhere

Microsoft's latest play in mobile is to make Office apps free for iPad, iPhone, and Android devices. That means you no longer need an Office 365 subscription to create and edit content on any of the major mobile platforms as Microsoft makes a push to bring Office to everyone, everywhere. However, that's not the only news.

For iPhone users, Microsoft went and carved up the all-in-one Office app into individual apps for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Along with Android users, these new apps offer the same experience and features that people with Office for iPad have been enjoying, the company said.

Office for Android

In addition, Microsoft will soon be rolling out its Office for Android tablet preview. You can sign up for the preview starting today, with general availability expected in early 2015.

"With Office on nearly every device, it’s incredibly important to us that customers have a consistent experience and the ability to do more–anywhere and everywhere. So, starting today, people can create and edit Office content on iPhones, iPads, and soon, Android tablets using Office apps without an Office 365 subscription," Microsoft said in a blog post.

Office Touch

This is a big move for Microsoft, though it doesn't end there. The company also confirmed that it's working on new, touch-optimized Office apps for Windows 10, though beyond that, it didn't have much to say at the moment.
