ASUS And Intel Announce PadFone X mini With Atom, XMM 7160 LTE Modem, And Android Inside, US Avail 10/24
Talk about a launch party -- AT&T and Intel both joined ASUS to announce the availability of the company's PadFone X mini, a 4.5-inch 4G LTE smartphone with an Intel Atom processor and XMM 7160 LTE modem inside. AT&T managed another exclusive and will begin selling the PadFone mini X in retail stores on October 24, followed a roll out to national retailers by November.
ASUS introduced the world to its convertible tablet and smartphone combination this past March when it unveiled the original PadFone X with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside. That one had a 5-inch display and docked into a 9-inch tablet (or PadFone Station, as ASUS calls it). This new mini model downsizes things to a 4.5-inch screen and docks into a 7-inch slate, and is supposedly the first LTE smartphone in the U.S. to sport an Intel CPU.
The PadFone X mini also sports a 5-megapixel "PixelMaster" camera for taking high quality photos and is powered by Android 4.4 KitKat. As for battery life, ASUS claims up to 28.3 hours when the phone is docked into the station, and up to 15.8 hours when used in the smartphone mode.

AT&T will sell the ASUS PadFone X mini for $199.99 and offer service for the device through branded GoPhone pre-paid service with plans starting at $40 per month.
